Policy 105 – General Weapon Policies

1. All employees shall safely handle firearms while performing on-duty assignments or while acting in a law enforcement capacity, in a manner consistent with LSSD training and policy.

2. Employees are responsible for any discharge of a firearm in their custody. Any unintentional, reckless, unlawful, or other discharge inconsistent with LSSD training and policy may result in discipline.

3. Shooting from Vehicles – By general rule of thumb, Deputies should never shoot from their vehicles. However, if you think there is a need to, you must first get permission from a Lieutenant and above. However, if there is a Captain or higher in-game, they must be the ones to authorize such actions. If there are no Lieutenants or higher in-game, DO NOT fire from your vehicle under ANY circumstances.

4. Shooting at Vehicles / Tires – With the implementation of spike strips, Deputies are strictly prohibited from shooting at vehicle tires. The only time a Deputy is permitted to fire any firearm at a vehicle is if they feel their life is in danger and the attempts to shoot at the vehicle should be to terminate the threat.
