Game Spotlight: Borderlands 3

Alright so Gearbox Software and 2K Games are teaming up once again to bring us another epic tale in the Borderlands series. But it was both Gearbox Software’s Texas and Quebec studios that did work on developing the game. This is the first time that the Quebec studios is working on a game within the Borderlands series.

After getting some feedback after PAX East in 2019, they wanted to make the storyline of Borderlands 3 different than that of Borderlands 2. But a lot of the feedback came back saying that it seemed too similar to previous titles in the series. So they did a bit of work to try and make the storyline stand out.

Borderlands 3 will be releasing on September 13th, on the PC (Epic Games Store), Xbox One, and PS4 for $59.99 for the Standard Edition. The Standard Edition is only made up of the base game.

But if you wanna splurge a little to get more cool stuff, you can also buy the following editions:

We all know that we live in the Borderlands, a group of planets controlled by military corps. But for Borderlands 3, we’re introduced to a pretty insane cult known as The Children of the Vault. And these Children aren’t exactly the most pleasant people, in fact, they’re pretty toxic.

Now, The Children of the Vault are lead by the Calypso Twins, Troy and Tyreen. These two just happen to love using the media to announce what they plan to do. They have managed to convince all of the different bandit clans in the Borderlands that the Calypso Twins are their Gods and Saviors. Troy and Tyreen see the Vaults as their birthright and want to come claim it back as their own.

But you aren’t just staying on Pandora for Borderlands 3. Of course, Pandora plays a part in the story as where you start. But there are also a few new worlds you get to see in the game. You travel through worlds on Sanctuary III, which is your own spaceship that you get to keep.

There are differences about these worlds. One of the worlds is Promethea, home of the Atlas corporation headquarters. Pretty futuristic in appearance but has been turned into a literal warzone because of a Maliwan siege. There’s also Athenas, a peaceful planet that has monks living on it, the Order for the Impending Storm. They’re kind of the only people that live on the planet. There is also Eden-6, which is pretty much a hillbilly swampland. This is where the Jakobs clan lives but kind of also has ravenous Saurians and semi-sentient Jabbers.

So you can either play the game solo or as a co-op with any of those friends you might think you have. If you want to experience the co-op, you can either team up with people online or do a two-player split screen on consoles. With the introduction of the Level Syncing system, it doesn’t matter what level your character is. Everyone in your crew will deal a whole lotta damage. You can even choose to play with loot instancing on so you get level-appropriate weapon drops just for you.

Alright so we all know who the Vault Hunters are. We’ve either seen them or heard of them as we’ve played through the previous Borderlands games. Well, in Borderlands 3, there are 4 new Vault Hunters that we get to play as.

Amara is luckily blessed with some very powerful Siren abilities that make her a literal badass. She’s a champion for the people, caring about their welfare and lives. She has some cool skills like Phaseslam, Phasegrasp, and Phasecast. Phaseslam is where she is able to slam into the ground to knock all enemies into the air and damage them. Phasegrasp means she can hold enemies in place with one of her GIANT ethereal fists. Phasecast creates an astral projection of herself that kinda casually destroys everything in its way.

FL4K is, you know, just this casual wandering robot that happens to have 3 extremely loyal pets. These pets can be brought into battle to buff stats and attack the enemies in front of you. You can either bring out the divebombing Rakk, teleport Gamma Burst-irradiated pets through different rifts, or even Fade Away to be invisible for a short period of time while moving faster and regen health.

Moze used to be a Valdof army soldier but the battles didn’t treat her very well. Her speciality is mechanized combat and she just happens to like to bring out her bipedal tank, Iron Bear. Iron Bear has some hardpoints that are good for mixing, matching, and mounting some good weapons. Some of these weapons are high-velocity Railguns, rapid-firing Miniguns, semi-automatic Grenade Launchers, flamethrowers, pneumatic fists, and some pretty awesome homing rocket launchers.

Now Zane is from Pandora’s notorious Flynt family and is a semi-retired corporate hitman. He seems to always have something going on. He’s able to bring out a SNTNL drone that can fly around and attack enemies with a machine gun and a deployable Barrier shield. There’s also a Digi-Clone that is able to distract enemies and give damage to enemies. Zane is also able to teleport to the Digi-Clone and switch places with it.
